PFLAG Cape Girardeau Scholarships
PFLAG Cape Girardeau's mission is to create a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. One way we seek to fulfill this mission is to provide financial support to those in the LGBTQ+ community who want to continue their education after high school. Since 2019, PFLAG Cape has awarded a scholarship each year to a high school senior. This year, we have expanded the eligibility to a member of the LGBTQ+ community who is already enrolled in an accredited college, vocational or technical school.
Scholarship Eligibility and Requirements:
-Student must be attending or planning to attend a fully accredited college/university, vocational, or technical school in Cape Girardeau County, MO for the 2026-2027 school year.
-Student must identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community
-Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher
-Completed application form (next section)
-Submit a personal essay, instructions for which are found at the end of this application.
-Two letters of recommendation, they cannot be friends or family. Instructions for letters can be found in the following link and should be shared with those who will be providing your recommendation letters.
-A copy of your high school (if a high school senior) or college, vocational, or technical school transcript (for those applicants who are already enrolled)
-Transcript copies should scanned or photocopied and sent as attachments to PlagCape@gmail.com with subject line “Scholarship docs”

PFLAG Cape Girardeau is proud to present our scholarship recipients for this year: Elliot Holm and Kiersten Holloway. Congratulations! We are so proud of you and are excited to support your upcoming journey as you embark into your first year of college. It is such an honor to support local students in our area, and these students here in particular are going on to do great things in their fields.
Elliot, who will be attending Millikin University, is pursuing Pre-med.
Kiersten, who will be attending Southern Illinois University, is pursuing dental hygiene.
